Blog Talk About Career Ownership | Thinking Rich | Inner Experience

Mind Your Own Career: Your Guide to Right Working for Right Living can help you to explore important questions about how you, your work, your career and your life are integrated, and to understand, and even to change, the answers you find.

The guide lays a foundation with a basic philosophy and some practical tips for changing your answers to these questions, so your answers become more suitable for who you are, what you need and what you want – in your work, as well as in your larger life.

Working On The Inside

Your inner experience influences, and is influenced by, your life at work.

You can improve both your inner experience of work and the influence your work has on your inner experience by:

  • Practicing consideration of the possibilities.

  • Keeping a clear focus on where you are and where you want to be.

  • Accepting what is and what comes.

  • Always thinking clearly and deliberately.

To respond effectively to opportunities and benefit in any scenario, explore possible conditions, actions and outcomes.

To enjoy meaningful work, adapt yourself and/or your work to suit your own sense of happiness.

Finding Lüscher

In the late 70s, I discovered The Lüscher Color Test. I owned a paperback edition translated and edited by Ian Scott, and used it for several years. When I became a consultant in 1979, I began traveling and moving on a regular basis. Along the way, the book was lost. Every so often, I would feel a need to consult it, and then recall that I no longer owned it. For a while, I maintained the habit of looking for a new copy whenever I was browsing in a bookstore. I often browsed in bookstores.

A few years ago, once again missing the book, I resolved to be more deliberate and intentional in finding a new copy. I visited a large chain store in Seattle, not just to browse, but specifically to look for The Lüscher Color Test. I pored over the psychology and self-help sections. The book was not there. I scanned the shelves several times, and finally let go of my resolve and proceeded to browse.

A large soft-cover caught my eye – Intuition Workbook An Expert’s Guide to Unlocking the Wisdom of Your Subconscious Mind by Dr. Marcia Emery. I pulled it from the shelf for a closer look, and noted that a smaller book had become wedged inside. Inside the Intuition Workbook, I discovered the store’s only copy of The Lüscher Color Test, perhaps neatly hidden and waiting for me to find it. I now own both books.

For me, this experience illustrates how inner experience and possibility work – how we go about perceiving and interpreting the world to explore possibility and to bring it into our reality.
