Mind Your Own Career: Your Guide to Right Working for Right Living can help you to explore important questions about how you, your work, your career and your life are integrated, and to understand, and even to change, the answers you find.

The guide lays a foundation with a basic philosophy and some practical tips for changing your answers to these questions, so your answers become more suitable for who you are, what you need and what you want – in your work, as well as in your larger life.

Minding Your Own Career

There are two guiding principles for Right Working and Right Living which address the most common desires you may have with respect to your work:

  1. You may want to earn as much money as you can with as little work as possible.

  2. You may want to work as effectively as possible, so you are as free and capable as possible to live your life outside of work.

You can satisfy these two common desires by adopting two basic principles.

  1. You must live a philosophy that keeps work and money in perspective.

  2. You must discover, invent or create work that is balanced and integrated with a full inner and outer life.

To “work” as little as possible and “make” as much money as possible, live a philosophy that keeps work and money in perspective.

To work as effectively as possible so you are as free and capable as possible to live your life outside of work, discover, invent or create work that is balanced and integrated with a full inner and outer life.

Mind Your Own Career may be your modern manifesto for right working and right living, depending on how you see work in the context of life. Or, it may be for you a primer on how to keep your work in its proper place, suitably balanced with your other inner and outer living experiences.

Within the lifetimes of the boomer generation, the nature of work and the nature of living seem to evolve quickly and continuously into experiences unimaginable even thirty years ago.

The Corporation, recognized as a legal entity even before women and children, continues to exhibit fantastic mutations, sometimes growing out of control in both size and manner. Like the primitive gods, corporations sometimes rise up and die out in a few short years, sometimes linger as parodies of themselves, sometimes consume their parents, children or siblings and sometimes wage arcane war games that toy with their lowly mortal peons (that’s you and me).

The litany of publications advising a You, Inc. and Me, Inc. strategy suggests that we can pretend to be gods and meet the Corporation on a level battlefield, as ally or enemy. Mind Your Own Career offers some alternative approaches.

Make the Corporation human again and meet on a level playing field, as collaborators.

Or, find common ground somewhere between business and human where you and the corporation can meet and interact as peers.
